Statement of Faith

The Grace Baptist Church community of faith is committed to a faithfully and biblically informed view of who God is and who as individuals we are and how we can live in a surrendered relationship to God in Jesus as our Saviour and Lord. In all things God’s Word is our guide, and we believe that it is fully inspired and fully able to lead and guide us in our faith. We believe that God has given us His Holy Spirit to indwell us and to guide and direct us. Our Statement of Faith is what we agree on as a church body. We also recognize that there are things that we agree to disagree on. We do this with a sense of humility, graciousness and unity.

Our History

Grace Baptist Church was founded on June 30, 1912 with 21 German immigrants and was known as “Deutsche Baptisten Geminde” – the German Baptist Church. In 1941, the name was changed to Riverside Baptist and later to Bridgeland Baptist. Grace Baptist Church was the first North American Baptist Church in Calgary.

GBC has experienced many good times and some difficult times. In all of those years, the ministry of Grace Baptist has been undergirded by God’s goodness and grace. The present church building, located at 2670 Radcliffe Drive S.E., overlooks the city centre alongside Memorial Drive. Adjacent to the Franklin LRT station, it was built in 1989. In the fall of 2000, the church added on additional space including a chapel, youth centre and many classrooms for children and families.

Grace Baptist Church is a diverse group of believers in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord who come from many different ethnicities and places. We are a church that has an old history but one in which God continues to do new things. Our mission is to Love and Live Like Jesus in our community, in our city and in our world.
